Day 17: Fri 15 Nov - Cuc Phuong National Park to Haiphong
26-35 deg C
Ride: 46km
"Visit center & endangered primate rescue center / Ride back roads , have lunch in Tam Coc and transfer to Haiphong. Overnight in Haiphong. Hotel: Manoir des Arts Hotel Cycle: 40km."
We rode away from the resort at 8am heading for the Vietnam Primate Conservation Programme where were got to see a number of different species of primates, most of which have been rescued from the drug or pet trade. There have been a few babies born in captivity, thereby prolonging the species existence.
We then rode kind of uphill for 18km into the national park proper to visit a very old tree. After a snack and cool drink we made our way back out of the park and it was mostly downhill and Wendy really enjoyed it. Lunch was had at another local eatery with more food than an elephant could eat.
Onto to bus for the almost five hour transfer to our hotel Manoir des Arts at Haiphong. The last two hours were very painful after the long ride. We were checked into room #308 a little after 6pm. We met downstairs to walk the 150m or so to the restaurant for dinner - again, too much food, but it was a bit different in that we were served frogs legs. Greg was adventurous and tried them, but Wendy was 'far too full' to have a go!
Back to the hotel for the night time routine.
